The wonderful thing about this job is the stories behind them. When this photograph arrived on my desk I thought it was Just another torn photograph. Little did I know that it was part of the Royal Veterinary College photo archives and an important photograph at that.

The photograph shows the customary gifts the college would present a new father with on the birth of his child.

A pram for the mother, a doll of the child, a pint bottle of stout for the father and a chamber pot.

The photograph had been put down on a desk with some other papers. Someone else pick it up with the paper and ripped them up into 3 pieces then throw them in the waste basket. It wasn't until some time later that the error was discovered and the pieces were recovered.
